Singers to shout about on International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women's Day, here are 7 singers who I know from the House Music Scene and some of the reasons why I love them

Michelle John

Michelle is a Woman on a Mission. We are only 3 months into 2019 and she is already smashing it!

She released her debut single “Priceless” in February (her first single from her forthcoming album called Woman on a Mission), sharing her story of domestic abuse – although it is not a sad song. Priceless is a powerful anthem of self-love, empowerment, faith and belief – whilst also raising awareness of domestic abuse and being a voice to the voiceless.

I highly recommend that you download your copy from iTunes or your favourite download store.

Michelle has also been busy performing for Magic FM, Kia Motors and BBC Berkshire and you can catch her very soon performing at The Cambridge Club with Sister Sledge.

Dawn Tallman

I am a HUGE fan of this award winning singer and songwriter who is also known as the Queen of Gospel Energy. Her songs are about the destiny of happiness, full of positive messages, empowerment, self-love and God’s love.

Dawn is incredibly talented. Not only does she feature as the main vocalist on House, Dance, R&B and Gospel songs, but she can also provide harmonies, background vocals, and ad-libs and can arrange vocals too – she is quite simply a producer dream!

Her album “For Me” is due out on Josh Milan’s label Honeycomb Music this year and I highly recommend that you check out her song on Rejoicing the forthcoming Jasper Street company album - The song is called I’ll Never Forget (Rejoicing) which was co-written and original performed by the legend that is Ultra Nate - it’s hot!

Barbara Tucker

Some call her the Queen of House and Dance Music but Barbara is more than just an international music artist. She is a writer, Activist, Mentor, Stage Developer, Event / Club promoter, Stylist, Label Owner, Artist Consultant, and Choreographer. Her music has influenced mainstream and dance music across the United States and throughout Europe for over 30 years

This leading diva of dance music lives to bring the spirit of love from the stage to the dancefloor – She knows her destiny, it is to help you get free. Once Barbara has blessed the stage, you are guaranteed to be touched, to feel joy, and to move to her inspirational message

Some of House Music’s biggest anthems are Barbara Tucker songs: “Beautiful People”, “I Get Lifted”, “Stay Together”, and “Most Precious Love” plus future classic Holding On – a song about the power of love and to staying together to persevere, overcome and achieve – I highly recommend that you download yourself a copy right now.

Janice Robinson

25 years ago, Janice Robinson wrote “Dreamer” one of the most iconic songs in dance music history that was a UK number 1 hit. It inspired generations in 1994 and it continues to inspire generations in 2019.

After a successful stint on UK factor last year, Janice is taking 2019 by storm – the highly sought-after inspirational future classic “Freedom” with David Morales is due for release plus music with UK DJ / Producer Paul Morrell. Janice will be spending summer in the UK and Europe on tour and I highly recommend that you check her out as she performs with a 50-piece classical orchestra for Ministry of Sound on their Annual Classical tour.

Tasha LaRae

Tasha La Rae is an international singer / songwriter taking it to another level. When she is not sharing inspiring messages via her songs such as Find My Way and Live To Love she is touring the world as the lead female vocalist for 2x Grammy Award Winning group, Arrest Development.

You can also find Tasha designing her own range of jewellery and promoting love, peace and unity around the world through fashion via her “Racism Sucks Movement.

Tasha is currently putting the finishing touches to her forthcoming album and it will be released this year on Quantize Recordings.

Soulful Emma Louise - S.E.L.

Soulful Emma Louise – S.E.L is determined to bring British Soul music back to its grass roots, with a Jazz flavour.

She has been part of the Soul II Soul collective for over a decade and has also worked with artists including Alicia Keys, Omar, Debbie Harry, Jocelyn Brown, Duncan James, Mica Paris, Rose Windross and Kym Mazelle.

She has also crossed over into the world of House Music with songs such as Flowered Tears and the spiritually uplifting “Elevation”.

As well as writing songs for herself and other artist, you can also catch S.E.L co presenting a show on Mi-Soul Radio, supporting Mica Paris on tour and at her own headline gig at the Jazz Café in June. I also recommend that you check out her Acoustic Soul Sessions on her YouTube page.

Vuyo Brown

Vuyo brown is a young singer songwriter from Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. She says that the aim behind the music is to bring healing to the hurting, restoration to the broken and lead those who have never experience the love of God, to Him.

She released her album Grace Fulfilled in 2018. I highly recommend that you check out the entire album, but especially the song Tichatamba - which means “we will dance”. It features regularly on my Sanctified Selection Radio Show on Premier Gospel Radio and I can guarantee that it will make you dance!
